Eventually D seems to think they've gone far enough though, because he slips into a narrow space between two buildings and puts Archer down.]

And what are you doing?

[He halts for a moment with a hand on the wall, fingers digging into the old mortar.]

Yeah? That sounds like a stupid idea if you ask me.

It sounds good, doesn't it, putting everyone before yourself? It's downright great - makes the whole world seem like a better place because your ideals are making it so. Archer knows because he used to think that way, and he knows his brothers still do. Shirou because he's dumb and stubborn -- Kiritsugu because he doesn't have much else to hold on to.

A whole lot of good it did them. Kiritsugu had to go be a hero that day they lost their parents. He shot their father because there wasn't any other choice, because the only way to save two brothers was to fuck himself up and take a life.

If they won't let you go, then make them! Don't try to be noble about it... you don't want to know what it'd do to Cu's head.

[He grumbles, tying his jacket around himself in an attempt to keep his injury as closed as possible. It's... it's not great, but it works a bit]

Then you won't mind my running?

[God shit fuck damn no that's not okay and Archer can't help but match the idiocy in his actions by getting up and forcing himself to take off after Diarmuid.]

[ugggh fortunately they only get to the street, and he shoves archer back into hiding immediately]

What else do we do?! They'll find us any minute, you know.

[He grabs on to Diarmuid wrist to make sure no more running off happens]

But--

[He doesn't know what that would be. Mainly this is because his fear of his former masters is so intense that he can't even fathom being able to just hide or run away. In his mind it's inevitable that he'll be caught, and it's taking most of his mental capacity just to keep from drowning in the hallucinations that fear is causing. It's all he can do to think straight when his ears are full of shrieking alarms and his vision's swimming with monsters and a creeping black ooze he can't dispel even if he knows they're not real.]

Then tell me what to do. [His voice cracks, and he stares as hard as he can at a point roughly in the middle of Archer's chest.] I'm scared... [And Archer knows better than anyone what his world is like when that happens.]

You run, just like we were. Fast as you can, towards the boat or somewhere safe, I don't care, we're just getting out and worrying about them later, you got it?

[beautymark]

[Well they could circle right back around this conversation, but he said he wanted Archer to tell him what to do, so he should listen. He hesitates a bit anyway, though.]

O-Okay...

[So he'll pick up Archer again and take off in the direction of home. If they're careful, they could be able to throw off pursuit at least for awhile -- long enough to make it home safe and get the boat moving.]
