[In the evening, Gilgamesh goes off to fight. Small or not, this is the Holy Grail War and they have enemies to defeat. So off he goes, and Tokiomi either goes with him or stays in the safety of his mansion.
Tonight is the latter. While Gil is off duking it out with the other Servants, Tokiomi keeps watch using a familiar. Only about halfway through the night, Gilgamesh will suddenly feel the pull of a frantic summons. Not the command spells (for some reason), but the insistence of his Master's need for his presence. It escalates, and after a few minutes there's the blaring mental alarm saying that Tokiomi is in mortal danger.
At that point Gilgamesh is forcibly summoned by command spell. When he arrives, he'll find the living room in disarray, with scorch marks and overturned furniture everywhere. His Master is in a terrified heap against the wall, breathing erratically and bleeding enough to have trailed drops all the way from the coffee table. Kirei crouches in front of him with black key in hand and a smile on his face, a tight grip on one arm yanking Tokiomi out of his defensive curl. It's mere moments before a final blow will be struck -- if the existing wound isn't fatal already.]
[It would be a blow to his pride to allow other Servants to best him because of his size - he finds Archer a rather distasteful individual ("rather difficult and unoriginal," in his own words), but regardless, he gladly crosses blades with the other Servants. He's calm, almost cocky, but at the end of the day his Master seems to be first on his mind at all times. When Tokiomi is nearby, he's fiercely defended. When he stays back, Gilgamesh returns as soon as he can.
When he feels his Master's pull, he thinks to disengage, looks for an opening in the fight, and yet finds himself pulled back with a command spell before long. It doesn't take long for him to realize the grave danger his Master is in, and he doesn't think twice before summoning Enkidu's chains from his gate and using them to bind and yank Kirei away from Tokiomi.
And when he speaks, his voice is even, almost pleasant, but there's an undeniable anger dripping from his words.]
Kirei, do you dare raise a hand against my Master? I'm surprised, I thought you'd know that treachery towards him is treachery towards me, too!
[Kirei is not surprised. What he is is both disappointed and impressed that Tokiomi managed to call Gilgamesh before Kirei could kill him. The paranoia that kept the child from turning his back enough to be surprised was definitely Kirei's work, but the bravery that allowed him to fight back is new. If it weren't annoying, Kirei would be in awe of Gil's ability to affect his Master so much in such little time. Of course, that feisty spark was easily snuffed once Tokiomi was wounded and cornered, but the fact that it was present at all was something like a miracle.
He knows he could die here, and that's also annoying. But he has no particular care for his life, so he can't say he minds too much. Tokiomi isn't getting up off the floor, and that's a good sign he can appreciate whether he lives or not.]
Ah, Saber. I must congratulate you on your timing.
[Gilgamesh punctuates that with a tug on the chains, to drag Kirei further from Tokiomi and hold him there. He can feel his blood boiling and that small bit of sadism buried inside him telling him to cut Kirei's throat and be done with it. Kirei harmed his Master, he dared defy the order of things, and that makes him angry - but for the moment, he stays his hand. Tokiomi has seen enough for now.
So he gives Kirei another threatening glare for the moment before turning attention to Tokiomi - he sees the blood, and he can feel his Master's terror.]
[He can't make himself stop staring at Kirei. Even restrained his presence is big and frightening, and Tokiomi still can't quite process the betrayal. He wishes he could make it not be true. Kirei has taken care of him, so obviously Kirei can't have been the one to murder his parents. He can't have really set up political axes to fall when this war is over. He can't have been here all this time, smiling kindly and watching over him, just for the joy of killing or ruining him later.
Right?
It takes him a few moments to tear his eyes away and meet Gil's instead. He's in shock -- psychological more than physical, but shock none the less. At the moment he hardly feels the wound, even though it's a cut in his side so deep it's gone right between two ribs and likely put a slice in his lung. If it weren't for the magical precautions built up over and over around him, he'd probably die. As it is he'll need to heal himself just to stay alive, and it'd take Kirei's level of skill to see him healthy enough to move around within the next few days. Still, the emotional blows feel worse at the moment, and he looks like he's not quite mentally present yet.
He's just going to hold that fetal position and shake, pale and wide-eyed but not crying.]
[He's going to smile because he feels like he has to - because a king can't afford to be scared or shaken in the presence of foes and allies alike.]
You did well, defending yourself until I arrived! I'll try my best to straighten up the room later...
[He sees the blood and bites his bottom lip in concern. The priest is nearby and his skills are useful, but he isn't about to release the man who was poised to kill his master. So instead he opens his gate again and reaches in]
If you can wait a moment, I may have something to help that wound...
[Kirei finds this all amusing. He's even laughing to himself despite his predicament. Tokiomi on the other hand is slowly regaining his senses. He nods slightly, then shifts to uncurl. But that hurts, and the pain makes him gasp, and the gasp hurts worse and makes him cough and--
--and he forces himself to calm down despite the blood on his lips. He refuses to cry in front of Kirei right now, so he deals with the pain by catching hold of Gil's sleeve and clutching it til his knuckles go white.]
[Hearing Kirei's chuckling only sours his mood further, but even then, he can't help but pause and smile when he feels Tokiomi grip at his sleeve. He's proud, in a way, to see that he made a wise choice in acknowledging his Master -- even in such a predicament, Tokiomi clings to his bravery and ideals, and that is ever admirable.
Much to his older self's disdain, Gilgamesh is certain.
After a fair time searching, he finally finds it: a glass vial with a decorative gold snake curled around it, containing not much more than a few drops of a healing elixir.
...and he sighs when he pulls it out and sees it.]
Ah, I'm surprised I kept this. It has such a bad design...
[But he shrugs, turning to Tokiomi and uncorking the thing]
I imagine this will sting a bit, but it should be enough to close the wound, at least.
[Maybe he could be more gentle when he tugs his sleeve loose from Tokiomi's hand and pushes Tokiomi's torn shirt away to drip the liquid into the wound, but, well -- circumstances.]
["Sting a bit" is the understatement of the century. But it's no worse than receiving his crest, so he grits his teeth and bears it. Still, his breaths come fast and ragged and by the time the wound is taken care of he's dropped his face to Gil's shoulder to hide any signs of pain in his expression. It hurts -- and more, every pang reminds him of the man across the room and the way the wound was acquired.]
[Gilgamesh reaches a decision: he saw how nervously his master glanced at Kirei, and thus, for the time being, he sees it fit to act as though Kirei isn't there, and to leave Kirei bound and out of sight until proper action can be taken.
Yes, this is a fair decision, he thinks.
In the meantime, he allows Tokiomi to cling, and reaches out to rub his back - it's affectionate more than comfort, because Gilgamesh only knows the former, but it's there nevertheless.]
[It takes a lot to admit that in words. To show weakness isn't elegant, after all. But it isn't a complaint so much as a statement of the fact and a bit of a question: what does he do now? Without Kirei to guide him, Tokiomi is lost. It's his heart that hurts more than his body, and that kind of pain isn't what he's used to at all.]

[Having something to focus on is good. If he has planning and work to do, he can throw himself into that and not the personal things that are tearing him up. He can't quite breathe while Kirei is around, though, so he glances at him again without moving from Gil's side.]

Still, he obeys Tokiomi's word, because his Master too is a precious treasure.]

[He can't meet Kirei's eyes when he looks that smug, but that's okay. He's not sure he could watch him killed either, right now. So he keeps his head down while Kirei leaves with a laugh and a casual "as you wish, of course".
After he can't sense him in the house any longer, Tokiomi finally lets go of Gil and forces himself to get on his feet and smile.]

To be honest, part of me still demands we take his head, but I will ignore it in favor of more pressing matters. It may be wise for you to rest while I make sure this house is still secure.
[He could definitely use the help staying upright, but that doesn't mean he'll take it. As always Tokiomi is determined to put his self-control ahead of everything else, even when he's visibly swaying and trembling from pain and blood loss.]

[It is in fact one of those instances. He manages to get himself all the way up the stairs and halfway down the hallway on sheer stubborn willpower, but eventually collapse is inevitable and he ends up on the floor wondering how he got there and watching the ceiling spin.]
Ah... that's natural, isn't it? Tonight's been awfully eventful.
