It is, as usual, a mission to kill some dudes who are dicks to help some other dudes who are presumably not dicks. Or at least less dickish than the ones he will be killing.
At the moment though he is ducking into what he thinks is an unused warehouse, because he is tired and bleeding a little from gunshot grazes and he has to make sure he gets those cleaned up before he sets off across the city for his next assassination.]
[Five years ago, Kirei had yet to settle down in his own chapel with his own pet addict - quite the opposite, he was a devout member of the church with a particularly unique job: to hunt those who posed a threat to the church and its teachings.
Perhaps he's after the same men as Kiritsugu. Perhaps it was just happenstance that the two men happened upon that warehouse, two paths that were bound to cross eventually.
Regardless, Kirei is there, waiting-but-not, one pant leg rolled up around his knee. There's a nasty gash there, the result of catching his leg carelessly on a protruding scrap of metal, and he sees it fit to tend to the injury before it interferes with his work.
Of course, when Kiritsugu enters, his immediate response is to stand and fling a knife at him.]
[His instant reaction is to dodge right, pulling out his pistol and firing. It's a given that he'll miss, but at least he'll put his adversary off-balance while he figure out where he is.]
[Despite the observation, Kirei stands, calmly wandering into the open. While injured, he's fully confident that his unexpected adversary could be felled without much effort, should it come to a fight. Almost excited, he extends a hand in greeting to Kiritsugu]
You wouldn't be here on unsavory business now, would you?
[It isn't wise to talk to strangers on this kind of mission. It isn't wise to let anyone see him who shouldn't, in fact. He ought to kill this man, but without knowing who he is he can't quite bring himself to. He keeps his gun level, however, and stays within reach of the door.]
I wouldn't decide something like that so quickly. You see, I'm here on behalf of the church, and if you intend to make trouble for me, it would be a shame, but I would have to treat you as a heretic.
[He eyes Kiritsugu's gun, but doesn't seem at all concerned by its presence.]
Then you're fortunate - I won't be needing to take your head. Of course, that doesn't tell me what your business here is. I wouldn't call this the most lively of places.
[Kirei, likewise, is on guard, though he hovers nearby as though he's not injured himself, watching Kiritsugu as though he's circling an injured gazelle.]
[Ignoring Kirei seems like the wisest option at the moment. He may not be against the church right now, but he could be at a later date. It would be foolish to give too much imformation out now.]
You realize, of course, that even if you do not answer me, your mere presence here allows me to know enough about you to nearly sate my curiosity. You carry a gun and are not afraid to use it, meaning you are no innocent passerby. You are here for a purpose and are wise enough to withhold information from me, meaning your sins are heavier and more calculated than that of a petty thief or transient. And, if I am to take you on your word, you are not with the church, nor do you oppose it.
There are few broad options that remain, though the details within are, naturally, limitless. Regardless, if we are not enemies, then there could be little harm in acting in trust while we are both injured.
You don't know that our goals are the same. Even if they were, I won't fight alongside someone who could use every bit of information he gets from watching.
[A dismissive huff is his answer, and once he gets his wounds in decent shape, he goes to leave. He won't stay and talk it out, not when he's got targets to chase and schedules to keep.]
