[He gets his arms up fast enough to block the blow, but it's still an angry Diarmuid swimging that thing, and he gets knocked flat on his ass. In true Emiya form, he doesn't know when to quit.]

[Standing is hard, so he's going to go for Shirou's throat on the ground instead!]

[He doesn't have an answer for that -- instead he grabs Diarmuid's wrists, trying to stop him from getting too tight a hold on his neck]

as for D, his voice is down nearly to a whisper]

It would have taken a good hour to give me every injury I woke up with. I can take a lot, so if you only heard a few minutes of it, that doesn't mean that's all there was. And if I have every other memory inside me, what did he do to make it hurt so bad I blocked it out? All I know is I keep waking up from nightmares and all I can remember is his face! And you can "just tell" he's not bad?!

[He winces, focusing strength in his arms and trying not to let how upsetting Diarmuid's words distract him and get him strangled. He'd rather not die, and he doesn't know how to fix what happened, and he doesn't want anyone to be angry, but it seems like it can't be helped and that frustrates him.

And what is he even supposed to say about Kirei? "We fucked and it was confusingly enjoyable?" "I just really want to see him again?" "I think he wants to kill my brother, but I can't help but like him?" Even Shirou knows none of that makes sense.]

I told him not to hurt anyone again! I don't know what else I can do!

[There's the smile again, even though he's radiating pain and fear at the same time.

On the upside, he stops trying to strangle Shirou. On the downside, his hand is grabbing for his knee, so he can wrench it hard enough to break bones.]

I should. I--

[There's an audible snap as Diarmuid wrenches the bone in two -- Shirou shouts and his body goes stiff from the shock.]

[Unused to this sort of thing, he recovers slowly, shoving at Diarmuid's chest with unsteady arms]

And still you apologize for him. I'd recreate the experience for you, but I can't remember it.

[The pain is almost unbearable, and he gags on his scream. He knows he feels bad, and he's sorry, but he doesn't know what else he can do other than be sorry and, well, keep insisting that Kirei isn't all that bad.]

It's not apologizing for him!

[Shirou will manage to get a foot or so between them before Diarmuid puts his own pain aside to scramble after him. He tries to pin Shirou's wrists, his expression somewhere between hurt and manic.]

It is! That man is a monster! I'd know. So am I.

[letting one hand go just so he can jam the heel of his into Shirou's ribs]

There are only two reasons anyone would do what he did. Either they have no choice, or they're a twisted sadist.

[He begins to struggle, though the effort is short lived - something sinks in, just a little bit, and he goes limp, looking almost guilty]

...still doesn't make you a monster.

It does! [just gonna try breaking your ribs there]

[He yelps again and there's a cracking noise as his ribs snap -- even then, he's stubbornly undeterred]

People can do bad things too!

[It does take a significant amount of effort to drag in a breath and not waste it on screaming]

They don't stop being human! Both of you could fix it!

He doesn't want to fix it! And I'm nothing but a mad dog that's been leashed. Do I have to kill you to prove it?!
